LORAIN COUNTY, OHIO, FEBRUARY 2005 - Just getting organized doesn’t work, Collaborative Solutions does! Launched in late 2004, Collaborative Solutions is about a Healthcare Provider, an AD/HD Coach, a Professional Organizer and the chronically disorganized adult. This holistic approach helps adults with attentional difficulties achieve control, order and balance for lasting change, internally and externally.

Psychologist, Kenneth DeLuca, Ph.D., Joyce Kubik, AD/HD Coach and Life Skills Trainer, and A. J. Pfander, Professional Organizer, are the first in Ohio to formally introduce this concept to northeast Ohio. Other physicians in the greater Cleveland area who worked previously with Kubik also participate in this approach.

“Getting organized” has become the new Holy Grail. Television programs, magazine articles and newspapers regularly provide tips and techniques to satisfy the insatiable quest for simplification in our lives, be it in our home, office, or business space.

For some people, despite these tips and their best efforts, they can’t complete the organizing process because of the amount of things they own, or the inability to make decisions about them. Millions in the U.S. live with attention deficit disorder (AD/HD), anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive behavior, or other illnesses that limit them from achieving the quality of life they seek. That’s where Collaborative Solutions steps in.

The Healthcare Provider’s evaluation is critical to the accurate diagnosis of AD/HD and/or other related issues and existing conditions. Their treatment includes various solution-focused and therapeutic techniques. “In addition to an appropriate treatment plan, other critical services such as an AD/HD coach and a professional organizer are often necessary,” said DeLuca.

The AD/HD Coach helps the client develop a more complete awareness of their attentional difficulties, and builds structures to manage their internal confusion. She provides encouragement and recommendations to help the client achieve self-empowerment. “When they gain control of their internal environment, they are ready to gain control of their external environment through the help of a professional organizer,” said Kubik.

The Professional Organizer assists in identifying and prioritizing the client’s goals. Organizing and decluttering is a process that often challenges the client’s emotional and physical connection to their possessions, but results in the ability to manage their space, paper and time more effectively than ever before. “A client who is willing to be part of a collaborative team increases their chances for lasting success,” says Pfander.

Collaborative Solutions is a challenging, supportive, and understanding effort that helps an individual with attentional difficulties reduce their stress and anxiety, increase their personal effectiveness and improve family interactions by appreciating their positive attributes and talents and creating positive possibilities for their future.
