One-on-one coaching
ADHD Coaching is a process that complements treatment plans that include medication, therapy, or both. It focuses on behavioral, emotional, and cognitive outcomes and builds life skills and strategies to change negative outcomes and beliefs.
ADHD Coaching is a process that teaches you how to accept and live with your personal ADHD issues and concerns. The goal of all coaching is to work in partnership, moving clients forward, and helping them realize specific goals. Unlike Life Coaching, ADHD Coaching first focuses on what the connection between your ADHD and those negative outcomes and beliefs are that developed over a lifetime—whether it was 5 years or 65 years.
Through small group sessions or one-on-one sessions you begin to build the strategies and structures needed to manage daily tasks. A unique planner, Plan For Success©, developed by Joyce Kubik, is used to help you manage daily tasks, observe behaviors and to learn how to live a fulfilling and deserving life.
Coaching does not need to be done in person. Most coaches work with at least some clients on the phone. Skype, an internet based phone system, is one no-cost way to handle the long distance phone charges.
Many adults prefer one-on-one coaching either in person or over the telephone.
However, ADHD Coaching works best if you have attended an adult small group workshop. These workshops are held in the Avon Lake office and as teleclasses. The teleclass is the same workshop that is held in Avon Lake with the same interactive sessions. Check the calendar for starting dates of the next classes.
How does coaching actually work?
There are three steps in Coaching
The first, self-awareness, a strong education on what is truly means to live with ADHD. You learn to understand your differences. How does AD/HD affect you – personally – and how does it affect others around you.
The second step is structure. This teaches you to use your positive traits to build a workable structure around your life that will enable you to move on to the third step.
Self-empowerment. This is a fulfilling and powerful step; one that you will enjoy as you gain greater control of your life and become more assertive and proud of who you are.
Together we find your strengths and weaknesses, and build upon them to bring alive the many wonderful things about you. You are the key person in this relationship, and you will tell me how to help you. A coach provides the structures needed to live within your boundaries.
On occasion, with your permission, your therapist may become involved to create the best possible coaching approach. See Collaborative Approach
